It looks to be South African Police, but I can't say for sure if it is genuine or not.

No, but the pattern was active throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

    Help with boonie hat P1010110

I have a couple of these 2nd pattern SAP boonies.  Matter of fact I have sent a couple to members of this forum.

They look like they were made just like your boonie.  Should only  have a small  cloth size tag on the inside.

Acquired about a dozen of these in the mid '80s.    They even had the same small paper size  hang tags....

Believe they were commercially made, but worn by  SAP who preferred a light weight boonie.

In the late 70s a south african company advertised this pattern boonie for sale in Shotgun News. First piece of SA gear I got.

I thought the camo pattern on it was first pattern South African Police camo.

I have one with a very faint size stamp on the inside.  No tags.

My understanding is that the 1st Pat types were commercially produced and made available as private purchase items to police units at the time. Which means there are a couple of different styles and no overt labels tying them to the South African government.
