    Misprint Alpenflage? Empty Misprint Alpenflage?

Saw this set and couldn't pass it up. No idea what's up with it, but I actually really like it. Makes me think of a transitional Desert camo.
Misprint? Fading? Some weird trial? My guess would be just faded. But what's the fun in that?

    Very cool...

This pattern has so many possibilities; I really like this one as well...

Dont think this is the results of fading...

What really makes me Think it's not fading is the fact the jacket and pants are both identical in colors.

Here's something interesting. ALL the fabric is the same colors even inside the pockets.

    Certainly not fading alone.

Looks like the black has turned gray and the other colors have " softened" from fading, but I think something in the dying process has also contributed.

Love the effect. If you find another, please do grab it for me.. Very Happy

Interesting! This looks like one of the lighter variety print runs that faded quite a lot. What I find most interesting is that the jacket and trousers match. That makes me suspicious that there's something else at play here besides original color and fading. Especially since the inside pieces are also significantly faded.

My guess is someone bought this set surplus and washed it a bunch of times with an aggressive detergent. Perhaps something with "whitener" in it. Could also be a reservist did it as well.

The reason I suspect this is I've seen a lot of faded Alpenflage, including ones with the black parts leaning towards gray. However, I've never seen one this washed out. Additionally, it would be very unusual for a soldier to have received matching "defective" pieces and had them kept together as a set.

I see the trousers are dated 1986. How about the jacket?

The dated tag is from the jacket. The pants don't have one. It's been lost to time. The sticking is still there, but no tag.

Thanks for the clarification on the tag. OK, so no clues there, other than the condition of the tags shows these things have been worn/washed a ton of times. Those labels are pretty hardy.

The black was significantly stronger, IIRC. Either both pieces came from a defective black dye run (possible) or the wash conditions hammered it hard. The other colors are lighter than usually seen, but I had AFV coveralls at one point that weren't too far off.

I like the lightened look. And seeing as you have a set, that's pretty cool.
