You've got to ask yourself the question, "Why" ? There cant be a need to remain unseen whilst on board ship and surley if they go ashore they'd wear Army camo? Also the reflective sleeve bands kinda bugger up the camo effect .

Well...I must admit you do have a great point....maybe it is to distinguish the navy from the army...similar to how the US Marines do from the US Army. The US Air Force has the ABU (which I don't own yet). But it seems that alot of the camo patterns out there are not made to "HIDE" in...but definately a GREAT point...But look on the bright side...gives us all a NEW uniform to add to our collections...

bond007a1 is right. The uniform is said not to fulfil the camouflage function as such but to differentiate the wearer as an Australian sailor - hence the addition of the reflective safety bands. What *is* interesting is that the Clearance Divers appear to have adopted them as well. Before they were (largely) the only naval personnel that wore camouflage due to some of their operations which were shore based. The air force have not bothered with a different pattern and have recently started wearing standard auscam as their working dress.

Same goes for the new US Navy camo uniform, or tons of paramilitary/police stuff out there. I had a non-camo friend come over the other day and she looked at some of the stuff I have and asked "what's the point of that?". From a camouflage standpoint, little point at all beyond making a fashion statement.

Philip you probably won't find them for sale on Egay, since a combined Task Force of ADF and AFP (Australian Federal Police) is scanning Egay for restriced items and imposes hefty fines on the sellers usually.
Although somtimes you see MK IV DPDU's popping up.
@ flecktarn..... grrr.. hate you for that...I'm still waiting on my set

The glow sleeve band has its purpose. People can't see each other on ship due to camouflage effectivity. So they wear it to reduce accidents.
Btw, Aussie girls are cute.
