Happened across this cold weather helmet pile liner cap in chocolate chip, quite small sized probably something like a 7, and no markings other than three old, near illegible G.I. Joey's Surplus stamps on the interior.
My question is, is this an older (90's/00's?) US commercial/PX item, or could it be from some Middle Eastern military?
I have various pics of Egyptian, Saudi, Qatari, and UAE soldiers wearing copied US helmet liner caps during the Gulf War in varying desert colors and camouflage patterns, but none in chocolate chip.
I also checked Natick's archives and found no NSN or evidence of experimenting with chocolate chip helmet liners, only OD and woodland as far as the US goes.
The only pics I have of one being worn is by a Saudi soldier in the Gulf War, but his is in their gray Border Guards coloration, and one worn by a Yemeni soldier in 2017, and his appears to be a local made copy in an altered color and print. There are a couple of Gulf War era pics here that show desert colored ones being worn, but either by angle, photo resolution, or the ear flaps being worn up I can't tell if they are chocolate chip or not.
