Similar to my Army thread, this will be a dump thread for all post WW2 USAF uniforms and items I've acquired over the years.
Again, nothing in chronological order, just as I get to things.
First off, a beautiful USAF OG-107 utility shirt, patched to Sgt. Elliott of the Colorado Air National Guard's now deactivated 138th ACWRON
(Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron) based at both Greeley AFB and Buckley ANGB.
The patch seems to be a secondary or unofficial unit one, reading in Latin:
"Eternal Vigilance Buys Freedom"
A 1987 dated M65 patched to A1C McCarthy, a Missileer in the 44th Organizational Missile Maintenance Squadron, Strategic Air Command.
337th Test & Evaluation Squadron Patch
452nd Flight Test Squadron Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk Flight Test Team Patch
3096th Aviation Depot Squadron AVDS Patch
Fairfield Air Force Station, Travis AFB
A pair of USAF Special Weapons Center patches from the 1952-1976 period
Tactical Aircrew Combat Training System, Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation "TACTS CUBIC" patch
Unissued USAF (now USSF) 23rd Space Operations Squadron patch
2008 dated ABU coat named to Missileer SrA Warsinger
2007 dated Women's ABU Coat, patched to a Sgt, no longer in collection
An ABU combat shirt, not much readable info left on it
A 1978 dated, Propper made B9B Winter Flyers Helmet
USAF Blue Wool Service Dress ''Ike'' Uniform, made by Isador Pincus & Son on Oct. 28, 1949
Named to a Major B. Mills
By my understanding these were one of the USAF's first own designed uniforms
A Camillus Survival Knife, dated 2-1984
An unissued, still with cutter's tags Cap, Aircrew, Heavy D-1A from the Blue Anchor Overall Co. Inc., probably from the late 40's or 50's
Cap, Field, Light, Sage Green, named and numbered to Air Policeman R.H. Hudson
A set of Coveralls, Cotton Sateen, Carded White CMU-3P, dated 1975
A really neat CWU-45/P Jacket, Flyer's, Cold Weather Uniform, with patches from either a USAF test pilot/crewman, or maybe a Rockwell or Eaton employee
Seems to be missing a squadron patch of some sort on the upper right chest, probably a test squadron patch
Tag is wiped but seems to be from the 80's or 90's
Another plain, wiped tag CWU-45/P I bought for costume since it has so much velcro patch real estate
An unissued Mask, Cold Weather, D-1A made by Superior Togs Corp.
The eye holes are meant to be cut wider to suit the wearer
A pair of E-1A Trousers, Flying, Inner, AF Blue, made by L.W. Foster Sportswear Co. Inc., probably in the 1950's
Cap, Service, Man's Type I, made by Bancroft Cap Co. in 1974
Unissued Hat and Insect Net HGU-18/D made by Kings Point Mfg. Co., Inc. in 1982
Missing the insect net that would stow in the little mesh pocket in the crown
One of two UN patched, 1999 dated hot weather ripstop woodland BDU's my buddy bought at a yard sale from retired USAF Major Peter "Pete" Stiglich
Read about him here:
http://www.smartvoter.org/2012/06/05/ca/state/vote/stiglich_p/bio.html
A basic Hot Weather Utility Cap, OG-507 ranked to a Colonel, dated 1983
A 1950's Jacket, Man's, Cotton, Tan, Tropical, ranked to a TSgt
Jacket, Cold Weather, Security Police, CWU-46/P with removable fur collar, made by Avirex Ltd. in 1983
Also came with a liner that I don't think is original to the jacket
An MCU-2/P Gas Mask with bag and some accessories dating starting from 1991, including clear and tinted outserts,
bag, and inspection card
N-2B Heavy Aircrew Arctic Parka, missing tag
N-3B Extreme Cold Weather/Arctic Parka, dated 1978, from my Dad's time in
I have another one dated '88 in my size, I love these things
A Northrop employee's B-2 Flight Test Team jacket
An undated OG-107 utility shirt with sleeves cut short, named to TSgt. Rhoads, Strategic Air Command
An undated OG-107 utility shirt, patched to a CMSgt. Senior Missileer, Strategic Air Command
These style of CMSgt chevrons were made obsolete in 1994
A 1973 dated OG-107 utility shirt with cut sleeves, named to Sgt. Warren, NORAD
This is the older style of patch back when it was called the North American Air Defense Command
An MA-1 with patches to the 65th Aggressor Squadron based at Nellis AFB in Nevada that I found in a vintage shop amongst a pile
of other various flight jackets including the next one below.
Don't know much about this one; the 65th flew F-5E Tiger II's as the patches mention, but it also features an F-20 Tigershark patch
The F-20 was suggested for trialing and use by Aggressor squadrons, with the 65th possibly in the running to receive them, but
the program was cancelled for several reasons, and two of the three F-20's ended up crashing
Found with the above Aggressor jacket, this black commercial Alpha Industries MA-1 has patches from the
N/ATF Naval/Advanced Tactical Fighter and CTF Combined Test Force programs, as well as the Pratt & Whitney YF119
and General Electric YF120 engines.
It seemed to belong to a Northrop/McDonnell Douglas employee involved in the production and testing of the YF-23 "Black Widow II" and
"Gray Ghost" against Lockheed/Boeing/General Dynamics' YF-22 in 1989-1990 for the USN and USAF, which lost against the YF-22.
A 1984 dated OG-107 utility shirt, patched to SSgt Batey of the Tactical Air Command, Civil Engineering Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force,
with an unknown patch that I assume relates to Prime BEEF
A 1950's USAF Permissible Electric Flashlight
A 1977 Man's Raincoat, with Airman ranks, from my Dad's time
Sage Green Cap, Field, Heavy, from the 1950's
Sage Green Cotton Sateen Utility Shirt, ranked to a Sgt., 1950's
These were an early AF designed utility uniform to stand apart from the OG utilities of the Army, but it wasn't well liked
and often substituted by OG's and eventually fully abandoned by the AF in favor of the OG's.
The Light Sage cap I posted earlier above was a part of this uniform
Another one, dated June 30 1956, patched to the 306th Armaments and Electronics Maintenance Squadron MAINTRON
An early Sage Green Jacket, Man's, Field dated December 31 1959, with its alpaca wool liner, sadly in poor condition.
These, as opposed to the sage utility uniforms, were well liked and continued to be made in OG until the M65 began to be issued
These would be paired with the Heavy Sage caps like the one I posted earlier above
A well worn pair of Trousers, Utility, Cotton, Sage Green, Class 2, Hemmed Bottoms, Shade 508, dated Jan 25 1957
Part of the unfortunate sage green utility uniform, these went to the shirt, jacket, and light and heavy caps posted above
The whole light Sage Green utility set together
It was said even new pieces varied in their shades, that combined with its baggy, sloppy appearance lead higher ranking
USAF members to despise it and kill it off by the early 1960's
A Women's Overcoat with zip-out liner, dated 1988
A 1977 dated OG-107 that belonged to a man my dad worked with
All of my dad's OG's were sadly destroyed when my grandparent's houses' basement flooded, and his M65 was stolen out of
his truck while he was fishing shortly after he got out
One of two of my dad's Tropical Dress Uniforms, dated 1977, and the light blue button service shirts
All his flight caps went missing sadly
And lastly, an assortment of Special Operations Badges:
MC-130H Combat Talon II
MC-130J Commando II
RC-26B Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance aircraft
AC-130J Ghostrider
AC-130U Spooky
U-28A Draco
Special Operations Forces Medical Element
TS (?)
MC-130P Combat Shadow
