Wellllllllllll now, this is interesting! That button is Lavtian Army and they did use M43 style hats back then.
My guess is this is legitimate VERY VERY early Latvian. There was all kinds of slapdash stuff in the first couple of years. Either that or someone had this made or perhaps sold to them and put a Latvian military button on it.
Whatever it is, it's really sweet!

Agreed. I own an Estonian made Bicolor winter jacket “tanker” set. Was more than likely manufactured right after or right before the fall of the USSR. Very interesting stuff indeed.
