Recently an experimental version of the 4 colour desert uniform is under trial. Only the cut of the uniform was changed, the colour (pattern) and the material not. The new uniform is styled like the US ACU (with some modifications). It is planned to make a temperate version for field trials in Hungary and if everything is OK, the new uniform could be issued ... if the army will have enough money.

Hi Tamas,
Well, it looks like I have another Hungarian uniform on my "wish list"
Any idea when the trials will be completed?

As it was stated, it will be fielded if the Army has enough money. My little experience with the current Hungarian mentality sais that it will never happen Great set by the way. Last year when i was in Budapest, sadly i couldn't find anyone willing to sell me a pair of these...

An excellent view of the new uniform! As you said, it is very close to ACU. But I always like to see the small changes made by a nation. Also good to see the traditional Hungarian rank shape is not changing to a boring square or rectangle. We have enough of those already

Very nice new uniform... I like the idea of the pointy rank tab, it's kinda cool.

That gore-tex jacket looks nice. Are they hard to come by in Hungary?

Re: Hungarian 4 colour desert camouflage
Yes, you can find them just with "good luck" - as all parts of the desert gear are withdrawn from the home-coming soldiers, so these desert items are not available usually on the public market. Actually, these items are "liberated" somewhere ...

"Liberated" and now safely residing in exile in USA
Very well made, however it is quite heavy for a GoreTex jacket. Heavier than anything else I have like this.

Re: Hungarian 4 colour desert camouflage
Congrats Steve! These jackets are quite "rare" today, as the 3 colour desert uniform was discontinued in Nov. 2004 (however surplus stocks were/are still issued of course).
My personal meaning is the jacket is quite uncomfortable (especially if the hood is folded to the collar) and badly cutted (too wide and too short) - it was much more better if the hungarian designers copied the US ECWCS parka and not the french goretex jacket.
Anyway the item is prefect for your collection :-)
