Re: 3 COLOUR DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
The original purpose of this uniform was an OpFor uniform. Combat Clothing Australia started out in the early 90's making commercial items for surplus stores and then picked up a few government contracts of which these garments were from. The first use of this pattern operationally came in 1998 when a SASR detachment was sent to 'the Gulf' as part of the Aust. govt's response to Saddam's intransigence at letting the WMD inspectors into Iraq.
When the Global War on Terror kicked off in Afghanistan it was rumoured that the only desert clothing in the Australian Q stores were these OpFor uniforms - so they were utilised until the hurried manufacture and distribution of the 1st pattern DPDU was effected.
The irony now is that all non-current versions of DPDU are now being issued as OpFor uniforms.

Very interesting and nice stuff. The matching boonie makes it even more cool.

Re: 3 COLOUR DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
I agree... 3 color desert uniforms can be yawners, but not the Aussie one. Gotta love slant pockets! The boonie is hard to find, as is he swallow tail cap.
I had a couple of these over the years. One of them (the one I retained) had hand made insignia sewn onto it. I have the factory made badges, but it's an either or situation so I haven't put them on the uniform. I think we had a discussion about the badging here at some point.

Re: 3 COLOUR DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Was supposed to have a set of these in a trade, but they were apparently lost or stolen in the post.
Great to see some in other collections. I'll find a set someday!

Re: 3 COLOUR DESERT CAMOUFLAGE
Thanks guys...
Very happy to have found this classic set.
DCU pattern may be a bit tired, but it is undeniably popular and effective..
Ben, I totally did not expect to find this set; good things do show up when least expected..
That is one of the many cool things about collecting..
