    Hello,
This is a Brazilian Military Patch, it's for the Aerial Transportation Command (COMTA). This patch has the date of January 1952 on it. They are based in Rio De Janeiro. If you have any more Brazilian Insignia, please post.

Hi andrew here are a few brazilian patches.

the one you posted is a pretty nice patch, very old, the cloth patches were discontinued in late 80's.
they were replaced by the rubber patches with velcro..
    here are a few samples...

    Hi Gilles,

    Nice items.

The uniform is very interesting. this is the marines pattern, but the patch is actually a police patch, not sure if was issued to police or the person put the patch there... Sao Paulo is the state where i grew up.

As for the "Guerra na selva" patch on the cap, a interesting thing to note is that the jaguar is facing us, that means this is an officer, if the jaguar was on it's profile, than it would be a regular soldier.

All brazilian patches with camo background are Army patches and all patches with black background are police patches (for the new rubber patches, the older cloth patches don't follow same rule)

    cheers

I wonder what this Brazilian badge really is? It's obviously quite old because I found no info from the net.

I think it has to be a CMA - badge. But what unit used, or maybe still uses it? Wikipedia and all the other
sources & sites & books I use do not show this type.

Height of the badge is 43 mm. Well made of brass & hot enamel and with one screw post & nut.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Shotgee

    Hi drmatz,

Thank you for the link. Great collection of Brazil-patches. I noticed there is exactly same one as my metal type is. Unfortunately no description.

I hope you could find a little more specific id-info on this. Is it a general CMA badge/patch, or is it a unit insignia?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Shotgee, This is the old version for the CMA. The newer version has the letters CMA above a jaguar´s head, on a blue and grey shield. CMA stands for COMANDO MILITAR DO AMAZONAS or AMAZONIAN MILITARY COMMAND. CMA has the strength close to 2 divisions. I don´t know when they dropped this design but my guess they used it from 1970's until 1990's, the newer one I think came up in 2000. Yours in specific look a like a early one, probably from 1970's.
