I was surprised to see in the posted pictures here that none of the soldiers had reinforced their Steyr slings. Or better, replaced them.
As a quick fix, used the metal buckles from M16 stocks in the front and rear of the Steyr factory slings to reinforce them. Even doubling up, since the poorly made Steyr factory buckle pops open! Decked out with optics, lasers, and other junk weighing 30-40 lbs for a light carbine. It is not a pleasant experience watching someones life savings drop down a cliff in slow motion, because Steyr did a terrible job for the sling, for such a nice rifle.
Replaced slings with an other manufacturer. Next problem. Still that charging handle on left gets in the way of almost any 2-3 point slings. Duct taping everything isn’t going to look nice….
Maybe running the forward portion sling through the opening in the rail might help. With all that weight, maybe the rail will come off, if the rail release button is loose. Some Austrian has probably found the ideal solution.
