Re: german helmet
Its an original Fallschirmjäger helmet, it looks good but i think $450 is a bit steep for one in that condition. But as long as you are happy about it, it doesnt matter.

Re: german helmet
I have seen ones in much better condition go for just a few hundred dollars more, but things may be different in your market. This is a cool helmet and so long as you are happy, the money is gone and it doesnt matter

Re: german helmet
I wouldnt say you could really tell from those pics if original or a weathered/aged fake without seeing more pics-stamps etc.
Not doubting misanthropic but if i was buying a similar helmet as original i would certainly need more pics than those to decide

Re: german helmet
First I admit I am not expert , but 2 things jump out at me , first the liner looks like it was cut out to make it look like it rotted away , second the leather parts (liner, chinstrap) do not show as much age as the shell does , I have held a few real ones in my hands , and the leather was always very aged looking and most times brittle , I would throw it up on Whermacht awards and see what they have to say , they have some very knowledgeable folks there that will tell you right away if its a repo .

Re: german helmet
Nice helmet. If it is a repro made to look old then the person who did has some good skill. Regardless it doesn't look that challenging to restore it to its original look.

Re: german helmet
Theres a UK Ebay seller that specialises in reproing relic German and US WW2 helmets and to be honest some look fit like pure junk and fit for the skip but he sells them for big money.
From memory his name is Fallschirmjager Biz or similar.

Honestly, I think you're mistaken. Either that or you saw a fluke where the seller did something really wrong. Even the 1950s Bundeswehr ones are going for around $500 these days. WW2 ones have been going for thousands for years now. Hell, a Plain Jane M42 in decent condition goes up towards $800 sometimes. Helmet collectors can be really nuts about stamps, years, factories, etc. Awhile ago a good repro would go for a couple hundred. However, China is knocking them out by the division load now so the prices are way down for those.
It's hard to tell if this is real or not. The thing is... someone would have had to do quite a bit of work to age the shell like that. The repro shells weren't all that common until recently. Given the FJ's involvement in combat in Italy it's quite possible this was a battlefield relic.
Enea, why do you suspect it is a fake? I'm not expert, but the liner is the correct type and it has the correct edge style.
