wouldnt have thought "genuine" S.A.S. as they wernt marked as such were they for security reasons?

    Nice tho!

I've seen stuff marked up SAS which does sound ludicrous, if they were that bothered however it's not difficult to remove a label, as labels were for stores to know the sizing etc

It isn't an issue item,if it was DMC would be CAS not SAS and NSN would be a 13 digit number (8415 99 xxx xxxx)rather than the 12 digits on the label , also there's no Contract Ref or Specification. But interesting nonetheless.

Cheers Gary,i dont think its issue but do like it as its different as the current windproofs are of the Arctic variety with nasty wired hoods( or at least i think they are??)

No worries Rich, I tried to find out who manufactured my "SAS" style smock, but it came up blank!!!

I think these are of comparable construction and quality as MoD versions. And are worth having in a collection!!

I also drew a blank which is a shame but still a nice different addition to the Desert collection.

Any idea in your opinions what sort of era it is from?

Yeah Rich ,I was gutted not being able to find out anything more concrete about them, I would hazard a guess at early 2000's, the reason I say that is the labels more than anything else...could well be off the mark on this though scratch

When i bought mine i hadnt noticed the rank tab at the front so hoped it was a private purchase Gulf 91 smock but got a shock when it arrived to see it was probably later.

Doubt its an issue item. SAS smocks don't have rank tabs as SAS don't wear insignia in most instances, what is interesting though is that the material and buttons are that of the CS95 Jungle Shirt.

Material is more lightweight/tropical than the usual windproof material as well.

Been thinking about this and I've had a thought.
Back in the day around 1994 we had we had to go up to catterick to secure the FIBUA area for the oncoming troops. We poped into John bulls and he had desert smocks like this on a rack by the window. Back in the early 90's such a smock stood out cos nobody sold them except for SASS. Now I'm thinking catterick is army town where it would have been bought, the jackets buttons are normal so pre1995. Also thinking on John bull may have a store in aldershot.

Yeah I have a couple too.

A ripstop one in American ripstop but the DPM is on its side so brown stripes run down your back. And then I have a sparse DPM one with slot buttons tight woven windproof fabric.

The 2nd one i have has knitted cuffs and Canadian type S95 buttons but they are a desert/tan colour.

This unlike the one above is made of the correct type material.
