MTP items made in China?

I just received a brand new MTP hat which was said to be genuine issue. A fact I would not have reason to doubt except a stick on label saying "Made in China". Everything else was as I would expect. So the question is... has Britain gone the way of nearly every other European nation and outsourced some/all of their uniform needs to China?

As to the other kit i know Cooneen Watts and Stone make the smocks at least and theyre Britain based

I know a sales man from China who sold brand new MTP combat shirts so it wouldn't surprise me. Also TAZ90 fleece jacket is made in China.

The Irish DF is supplied with its clothing by a Northern Irish Company called Cooneen, Watts and Stone.The British army are supplied with their new PCS MTP CU by the same company .The company sub contracts to a clothing manufacturer in Sichaun China.All both armies combat uniforms are made in China now.

The MOD have British Kit made in China due to it being cheaper, from what I've heard though is that the kit has mixed feeling with the troops due to them being thin and flimsy and ripping easy...something that would struggle to happen with a James Smith and Co Smock.

Thanks for the info. OK, so Britain has gone the way of most other countries in Europe by subbing it out to China. I knew Irish stuff has been made over there for a while now, mostly thanks to Seyntex switching their subbing from places like Tunisia to China.

Unfortunately for quite a few years now where British Military clothing is concerned price comes 1st,quality 2nd.

Cooneen watts & stone official manufactures of MTP, outsourced this to China a few years ago, it was quite a scandal at the time!!!!!!

IMO if Britin ever gets into an armed conflic with a side suported by or containing China we are going naked

US uniforms are still 100% made in the USA. This is not negotiable unless Congress changes the procurement laws. Where things get tricky is with weapons systems. A long time ago the news got a hold of the truth about sub contracting of critical systems like the HARM missile. It was made in the USA, but some loophole allowed prime contractors to use foreign components.
