Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
Loooks put together. SF, Pathfinder and Ranger scroll look too new. Don't know of anyone who used that Ranger scroll that just had Inf on the tail of the scroll. All Ranger companies in RVN had the letter of the Company on the tail.

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
It's also unusual to see a Ranger current unit, but an SF combat patch.

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
First, that Ain't Erdel! Which answers the question of originality.
That is the first pattern BDUs with slant pockets like Jungles. These were around for 3 - 5 yrs from about 76(?).
Look at the tags, they will tell you the contrakt date.
As for the Ranger scroll and SF combat patch - Why not??? At some time he was reassigned out of SF. This was a common practice in the 60s & 70s till we got own branch.

Jacket is packed away so cannot at this time check the other label but will do when i can.
Now,while i dont know much about the insignia/patches i am 99.99999% sure that the jacket IS a Vietnam period Erdl jacket-POST VIETNAM a SIMILAR jacket was issued(not for a long period) and that again was in ERDL(not the later Woodland) and was very, very similar except for the chest pockets which were straight and NOT slanted-these are commonly referred to by collectors as the RDF pattern.

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
As I said - That Ain't Erdel! Not even close. It IS early woodland from the late 70s.
IF I can get this site to attach photos, been having problems lately, I'll show you the green Erdel. Brown was identical except more brown than green.
Well still no luck getting a photo to attach. Email me and I'll send you the photo.

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
I'd like to see a photo of the 5 together. When I was there - 69/70 - there were only 2 - green & brown dominant. The pattern was identical except for the color. I sent home some of both. I've never before heard of any other variants.
Again I ask - What do the tags say, How about photos of the them?

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
--I know what you mean, Sarge. I have found some ERDL that I'd swear was early Woodland, but it isn't. This boonie looks brand-new, and as if it shipped in the early-to-mid 1980's,
But...
It is from 1971.
The difference between this, and the jungle jacket posted above is in the bleed. The ranger-jacket looks like one of the patterns that had fuzzy edges, making it of an even earlier vintage than this, I *think*.
(Somebody may correct me here, but based on lots of looking, that's what I've found).

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
I will try to dig it out again and IF it still has its label i will put money on it being either 1969 or early 70s dated.

Re: ERDL Jacket-Special Forces.
But, back to the initial point-- the bleeding edges of Gulf's jacket here are pretty much an indicator of authenticity, are they not?
