Re: M49 pattern
Sadly no chance to renew the pattern and bring it back to army use. Although there are many fans of the traditional "three colour print pattern" even in the army, but the "new guys" wanted pixel pattern or recently Multicam, anything the "Big Brother" wears ...
I think the 3CPP was perfect for the HDF however: brown for "everyday" use, green for summer/tropical and still a desert version needed for special troops. Bad luck the decision is not in my hands ... and we must wear the "NATO-style" M90, which is a worse camo than the 3CPP, simply too dark for most terrains.

Re: M49 pattern
Gilles, it depends on how do you want to count? The start point was the M38, but the M44 used first the schemes of the later 3CPP. The M49 had also a few versions (colour versions), then the pattern was renewed in the early 80's. That time the colour was quite standard (brownish), but due to different materials used (from 100% cotton material for uniforms to 100% plastic material for rain-gear) there were differences in colourization. The only official version was the "Hurrikan" (green tropical pattern), but I also saw different commercial patterns based on M49/82.
Shortly: if you count the official variations only one (standard 3CPP and Hurrikan) but if you count everything then "endless" variations existed.
