    Hello,
Here are my modified DCUs with sleeve pockets. First up, a DCU with heavily velcroed side pockets, nametape area, and the sleeve pocket closures are also velcro.

Next up, just a plain old sleeve pocketed DCU. Just the nametape area is velcroed. (The second picture is the sleeve pocket on one side)

Next, is my modified DCU that I think may have served in one of the sub-bordinate units of the 82nd. The shadow of the unit patches are there, the left side has a rounded top and bottom rectangle shape which could be a lot of units. If I remember right it has a spot for an ABN tab on it. The rank, flag, and tapes are intact and sewed on, not velcroed.

The next one is an interesting velcroed one that I found with the tapes intact. The rest is a mystery. The velcro is grey (ACU color) and is horizontal, not lining up with the pocket, but rather with the ground.

That is all for now. Enjoy!

Thanks. I'm fortunate enough to live near the largest base in the US in terms of personnel.

I found a picture of a similar modified jacket like mine with the vertical green velcro:

Modifyed DCU shirt. Labelled with 1991 contract date and "Kenwood Co" maker, but no elbow reinforcements. Does it mean it is commercial? Or foreign contract?

It is early contract DCU. All early DCU's dated 90's are made of cotton, not rip-stop material and they don't have elbow reinforcements.

Steve, it looks like the "flap" is actually DCU fabric with velcro backing. Purpose for it is unknown as it is my first time to see it but I bet it has to do something with covering the velcro when it is not in use?

Yes, nothing wrong with it. Just an early NYCO twill DCU.
But there are also early rip-stop ones. I have one dated 1990 made of 100% cotton.

I have never seen one with the flap like that , but it does look like it could be for a Rank slide , which the U.S. does not use , many other countries were using U.S. manufactured DCU's so I think it might have been a surplus piece used by another country . I could be wrong .

Friends! I'm sorry I forgot to note what the "flap" is on the left sleeve. The former owner (? or maker?)added a piece of "male" velcro to the small pen-carrier (sewed regularly into the left chest pocket), this way an "extra pen-carrier" can be added to the sleeve pockets - however I'm suspicious of the practical use of such thing.

Otherwise, the shirt was modified with addition of chest pockets of another DCU shirt, and even the two materials are a little bit different, although both are NYCO twill (but the shirt itself is more "pinkish" while the extra pockets are "tan").
