Bought a job lot of the grey padded Y Straps (only needed the 1pair for myself) and am only now sorting through them and notice there are 2 distinct types amongst them, different hardware and construction.

Cannot find any markings other than numbers stamped into the connecting ring but cannot make out any date.

Will post pics when I get home from work.

Ooo! Nice. Yes, there is an earlier and later version. I don't remember when they switched or even what the changes were. In fact, I'm not even sure I have both! I should probably take this opportunity to check Wink

These things are nearly indestructible, but they were not liked by soldiers as the tended to be rather noisy. I don't know if any of yours have copious amounts of electrical or duct tape on the metal bits, but I've certainly had some like that.

Havent really checked them out as yet as are baled together, think 25 in total but sold 3 yesterday and while picking 3 out noticed(which I hadnt at first) slight differences in how the hardware and straps are attached, some stitched, others riveted and Im sure one had some square d rings instead of oval?

I had them delivered to work save lugging them all home and taking up space so will try to bring a few home and take some pics.

There's not much info on this as far as I can tell. It appears the rivet version was the earlier one and sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s they switched over to the stitched type. The first one went into service around 1960.

I have a set of repaired suspenders that seem to have a combination of both types of constructions - probably because a salvaged piece was added...

    No problem!

I'm going to look and see what I have for straps and I'll let you know if I come up short on variants. I think I have both because somewhere in the back of my head I think I knew there was two versions and that probably means I have two. That's often how I figure out there's another version! Like my Italian desert camo... thought I was buying a spare for resale, but got it into my hands and NOPE... gotta keep both because they're different.

And some people wonder how my collection can be so large Smile

I rooted around in various boxes in hard to get places and discovered that I do have one of each type. Though one of them was in a "for sale" box. DOH! Thanks Gulf for saving me a bit of work and expense going out and getting something that I already have Very Happy
