Would you believe it-in the almost 30 years ive been collecting this junk i have NEVER owned any of this splinter stuff and yet within a week or so now own a jacket and trs Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing .

Anyone please got any ideas on these as the label is washed out.

They have some unusual features(to me anyway) in the 3 rows of holes and pop stud flaps on the legs.

Like the jacket, these are well used/abused.

Congrats Smile It is one of my favorite uniforms. Condition, unfortunately, are generally very poor. Yours is in "medium" condition for BW Splittertarn. IIRC your jacket is also Blue variant so you have a decent matching set.

Production was only from 1956-1957 (I think a few months at the end of 1955, but I can't remember off the top of my head). So for sure yours is 1950s.

Nice find. Appears to be the "blue" variant.

    Cheers Guys.

Anyone got any ideas what the 3 rows of holes and the pop stud flaps are for on the legs?

    Thanks

Air vents and size adjustment tabs. This uniform was worn over a wool or cotton uniform, so ventilation was an issue. The adjustment tabs were common on some trousers from this time period. In particular Swiss and Austrian.

    Cheers Steve.

Someone had commented that the 3 rows of holes could be for leg ties?

Also noticed inside each leg pocket are compartments for mags possibly?

Hmmm... I can't see how those holes would be related to leg straps. I've certainly never seen pics of any soldier with straps looped through them.

Yes, they are mag pouches within the leg pockets, as there are in the chest pockets. There was a uniform design trend at the time for this sort of thing. Obviously it proved impractical so it was dropped.

My guess is these interior mag pockets were designed for extras with the primary 4 still going into mag pouches on a belt.
