Type II Leaf Pattern coverall MK Empty Type II Leaf Pattern coverall MK

Post by Martin Sat Jun 27, 2009 6:27 am

Recently got this Type II Leaf Pattern coverall MK - one of my favourite patterns ever (don't know why - just the simplicity of the pattern makes it look cool) - and got it for a very reasonable price too... Unfortunately it didn't come with the facemask - if anyone ever gets hold of a spare facemask please let me know...

Anyone have any photos of this coverall in actual use?

Just looking at the stamp now, I think I can make out "1948" on the second line from the top on the right hand side.

Congrats Martin! That's a rare piece you have and it looks to be in excellent condition. Unfortunately, I have not wanted to bleed myself white to get one of the early Soviet coveralls. Too much money!!

This birch pattern camo suit is shown on page 87 of Desmond's book, "Camouflage Uniforms of the Soviet Union and Russia". The birch camo has been a bit of a mystery because there have not been any photos showing this pattern worn by Soviet troops. As a result, these birch camo uniforms are usually thought of as experimental.

Here is an early photo of the birch pattern suit being worn by the soldier with what looks like an AKMS (if it is an AKMS, the photo was taken around 1959 or later).

I think that this photo shows that these birch camo suits were actually issued. I have added an additional image showing a comparison of the pattern in the photo with an actual uniform in my collection.

Ah yez, Well I bidded on these two this morn but didn't win. Both sold for about $305 (splatter) and $310 (leaf). Before I even bidded I found out that they were both repos kuz the dated for the KLMK-Splatter was waaaay off (splatter made in 61' NOT 48'). Tho I currently got my eye something just as valuable.

Yup, I also got my ass handed to me. I was top bidder for a long time and knew it wouldn't last.

I figured the guy just got the date wrong, but it does look like the stamp says 1948, doesn't it?

The splatter looks like it might be dated "1958".

This post shows a 1960 dated Splatter suit along with a 1958 dated Sunray suit that has Splatter camo material scraps used in it’s construction.

    https://iacmc.forumotion.com/t1262-soviet-camo-suits

The suits that were sold on eBay are the real deal and it looks like Splatter was developed prior to 1960.

I hear that there is another old pattern Splatter camo coming up on eBay soon. Smile

Sorry if i break rules of the forum, but i am the one who sell splatter on ebay. When i put it on sale i didn't knew what type of camo is it, stamp on it show 1948 year of production. It is definately not replica! They seldom trap to my bunch orders of KLMK. If you are interested i can pick some additional photos while i didn't shipped package yet

No rules violation Sergey! Congratulations on getting good money for both items. I did not doubt the legitimacy of them. Soviet stamps are often very difficult to read, so don't feel bad if you made a mistake with the date.

Yez Collectin Steve your not goin' blind, 1948 is what it says on both KLMK suits from the ebay auction.
Now I don't mean to break bad on you Escammo with your link on the Sunrays-Splatter mixed camo suit. To me it looks like someone took some parts from an old busted up klmk-splatter suit and slapped it on a klmk-sun bunnies suit. Pluse the date to me on sun bunnies-splatter suit looks 1968, not 58'. You'll have to agree some of the dates you see on russian stuff can play a little obtical illusion, if you will. Some maker mark dates are disporportionate with each number/letter, age determines how much of stamp has rubbed away. So now that 6 looks like a 5 or 3.

RetroRedRio. I agree that the Soviet stamps are hard to read but, disagree with you on the date. The sunbunny/splatter suit is dated 1958 and it is a genuine and unissued suit. I have seen enough of these uniforms to determine that. Neutral

Nice uniforms, Sergey. Congratulations on your successful auctions.
