Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
I heard that there's are some commercial Ukrainian desert uniforms on ebay. How can I make out fake from real? What are the differences?
Thanks,
Philip
Thanks,

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
HI Philip,
I had several sets at one time of ukrainian desert that came direct from Iraq. The issue uniforms I had were ripstop and the ripstop pattern was very noticeable. The above look like regular fabric and they appear better made than the issue sets to be honest.
Here are pics. THe boonie shows how visible the ripstop is on the issue pieces I had.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
HI Andrew, the first pic doesn't look like ripstop to me, at least these old eyes can't see it. The pics I posted later quite clearly show the ripstop

Actually on magnification, the set Sergey posted seems to be ripstop but it's very faint in the photo.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
I had a commercial set and it is quite easy to tell what it is. Unfortunately I did not have the commercial set at the same time as my genuine issue set (thanks again Chris!), so I can't comment on the specifics of the cloth. BUT... I think the cloth is the same, or perhaps just a little bit different.
Here are pics of the commercial set:
Shiny buttons, zipper pockets, etc. Pretty much nothing in common with the real deal.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
Also, just to add a bit here.
I spoke with the fella that got my boonie, he's a boonie hat collector, he bought one of the ebay ukraine desert boonies which was NOT ripstop. It's minefield out there.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
At least when I bought my commercial set I knew exactly what I was getting into. The seller had them in any size you wanted, which is a Red Flag of the highest order that the item is commercial. And of course when I got the real set from you I knew it was the real deal. I feel lucky to not have to wade through the minefield!

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
Dear CollectinSteve
My uniform is real from official government contractor Ukrainian factory. For Ukrainian soldiers camo uniform in Iraq made about 5 factories. On photo from CollectinSteve real suit - not commercial version. I long time looking for this is suit. This is suit for Ukrainian Air Force. I know that uniform made one factory called "Korona" I attached a label of this is factory.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
Uniform for the Ukrainian peacekeepers have made about 5 factories. Uniforms were made of different fabrics (cotton, pip-stop and mixed fabrics) and different shades. Standard model of suit - jacket have a four pockets and another one with two pockets. Jacket's pocket with buttons and Velcro stickers. And was the two suits - jacket with zippers, one for the generals and high officers and the other as in the photo from Dear CollectinSteve - this for the Air Force, for pilots. A few photos from Iraq, as You see suits have different shades. Best regards

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
That is quite a lot of color variation! Thanks for showing them all in one picture. It's good to see them all with the same lighting and right next to each other.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
Small clarification about uniforms shown on Sergey's photo(I had a chance to wear all of them)
So, from left to right
camo #1 - first version - issued for Ukr troops entering Kuwait and Iraq in 2003. Has very poor quality of everything (fabric, colour etc.) From my own experience - this uniform was too hot to wear in Iraq, it was changing in size right after first washing, and losing color as well.
camo # 2 - later version (I'm not sure about the exact years). A little bit better quality, but still desire to be better.
camo # 3 - current version. Not so bad - ripstop, issued for our soldiers participating in ops in Iraq and other countries with hotweather or desert environment (UN mission in Sudan for instance).
Hope this explanation will be useful.

real items. Vest is not so bad, but holster sucks! We don't use this holster at all in practice.

Re: Ukranian desert camouflage
It does seem like a piece of junk , and is probably why there are so many for sale on ebay for cheap , I had to have one to add to the collection , How many different pieces are there in this pattern ???
