Steve-The USMC camo bags were available in the PX on bases in the mid-1980's.

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
Ok, but I can ell you I bought mine at Camp Pendelton in 1984, and it was around $6 or $8.
They are way brighter when you buy them new, and the more they are laundered, the more they get a "vintage" look to them, and they get real dull in color.

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
Steve-I threw mine away in the early 90's.
If you don't want to believe what it is, that's your call.
But, even looking at the photos and seeing the wear on the backside bottom, you can tell, this bag has been laundered.

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
Dont knock yourself out Bob , I am confident in the bags origins ,But thanks for opinions .
You could show bags all day long , as you know many of these are custom tailored pieces that were made by the whatever local tailor was available ,there was no standard other then they sometimes copied issue U.S. designed items , so showing other bags just means you have other bags,And does not make mine any less real.
Again , I appreciate your opinions , But I am quite happy with the bag.

Here's a link to the thread on my bags
https://iacmc.forumotion.com/t6825-original-vietnamese-made-erdl-tiger-stripe-tailor-made-bags#49371
If you do a quick search on the history of the unit, your bag is from, yes they were in Vietnam for a short time, but they have also been statoned at Camp Pendelton since 1971.

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
Below are a series of comparison pictures showing three items ,in each set there are three pics ,one of each item , I apologize for the size , its all I have , but the point is there .
The first pic of each set is of my ARVN ERDL set that was confirmed original by Owen Thorton and Bob Moore of Moore militaria and is pictured at the beginning of this thread , the second picture is of the bag in question , the third pic is of a recent auction of an ARVN ERDL set of pants that were sold on ebay , the only difference is the greens are reversed , this is not a deal breaker in any way , but since there has repeated monosyllabic posts that its woodland ,well I dont need to post any woodland , its all over the board and one of the most common U.S. camo's out there . so you all decide for yourselves. Again Sorry for the small pics , If I could ,I would have made them bigger , I just took low res pics of my set when I had it .

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
Just a couple of other quick observations about the bag , if it was sold in PX's in the 80's , it would be required by U.S. law to have a tag in it , this bag has no tags or any sign of a tag ever being in it ,another feature is the cotton strap that is sewn to the bag has a break in it where it looks like whoever made this had limited supply of the webbing and used whatever they had ,this bag would not have passed a factory inspection ,It very much looks like a custom tailored bag .
I am done with this ,Real or Fake , it is staying in my collection , so no worries on it fooling anyone for the time being . you decide ...

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
What you call "Arvin Erdl" I know as LLDB (SVN Special Forces) camo. I've heard that the Arvn Rangers also used it some, but the 2 times I worked with them they were not wearing this uniform.
I have a couple of sets of LLDB that I sent home from VN in late 1969 & early 70.
I also have a pr of actual green Erdl(like the US) pants with the SVN ink stamp in them.

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
It *is* a nice bag ... the camo also looks like some Thai ERDL copy material I have from the early '80s.

That is a very real possibility ,I have several Thai unis I compared it too ,from the late 70's to the 90's , but none matched , but that does not mean its not it could be a uniform I dont have they made so many ERDL/Woodland patterns !!
BTW , I also checked it against our Thai section here which has an impressive array of Woodland/ERDL and no match ..

Re: ARVN Ranger ERDL Uniform
I decide to contact Mr Moore at Moore Militaria as he has been so very helpful in the past , His opinion is that it is pre woodland , a ERDL variant similar to some early 70's trial patterns tested by the Marines , he even sent me pictures of a 71 dated armor vest that was a very close if not identical match for the pattern , however the colors of the vest were like Brown Dom and is made of a nylon fabric , from that he thinks the bag could have been made in Okinawa or Thailand as a private purchase item and possibly made from scrap fabric from these early tests and was most likely 70's vintage.
The stitching on the inside is reminiscent of Thai work with the cut fabric having been loop stitched to prevent fraying .

Sorry Owen , not woodland at all , and already showed that, and please Owen , if you want to contribute , show your work/research ,coming on a thread with a one word answer and no facts to back it up is not going to work.
