It is a size large and has the early first pattern cover on it...which is rare in itself so I've been told. The cover is a size medium stretched over the helmet...yikes.

CG634 Kevlar Helmet
FINALLY I found one of these helmets to add to the collection and I have to say it is my favorite one out of the other 60 or so helmets in the war room. I have been unsuccessful until now to add one to my collection...perhaps now that I have one I can keep finding them. I got it from a private seller so I avoided the outrageous surplus store cost for it.

Thanks guys! I've since found the right size cover for the helmet, and also fitted it with a proper scrim net...looks a lot better now.

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
I think I'm going to keep the first pattern medium cover that came off the helmet, but I do have an extra large cover in good shape. I will list it in the for sale section with pics.

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
I'm jealous! I had one set aside for me, cheap, but the Military Police raided the shop and "stole" it. And by that I mean he had bought it legally through surplus channels but they decided he shouldn't have it, so they just took it. Grrr!

Cadpat Covers - First pattern?
You mentioned that you have an early first pattern cover on your helmet. Could you elaborate on the different types or patterns of covers? All I have ever seen are covers in Cadpat Temperate and Artic with the black plastic tabs to tuck into the helmet webbing.

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
The early covers were made of a thicker material compared to the covers issued today. I showed it to a friend in Edmonton who is in the PPCLI and he told me about the differences in material.

I have two helmet covers, undated as usual, with the same manufacturer (GSI) and the same contract (PT/PC9675154-1) and the same NSN (8470-21-912-7623) which would mean the military considers them identical. One is slightly lighter fabric than the other, and is an almost khaki shade on the inside. The other is green on the inside, a shade somewhat the same as the lightest green on the Cadpat side, so it may be the base colour that the other shades are printed on.
Does that make sense to you?

Some of the older woodland covers I have show the same characteristics as you mention. The ones made today are made of the same material as the uniform so they are much more flimsy compared to the older ones. Some of the woodland ones I have can be displayed without a helmet...they hold their shape so well because of the thickness of them. So far I have only seen AR covers made with the uniform material.

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
Dale, hope you dont mind me posting here as i now also have 2 Cadpat covers and also a CG634 Helmet.
Both covers are identical feature wise etc but the material of both are different.
The cover with the white label is made from "traditional" quite thick cotton type material while the one with the green label is of the strange(to me) waffle type lightweight textured type material that i have seen on other Canadian clothing items-hard to describe to be honest and it much have a correct name im sure!!

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
Say Dale (and Gulf91),
I too have both the older and a newer issued CADPAT covers, but no CG634.
I do however have Danish army MSA Gallet TC 'D' helmets, and I read somewhere that the overall dimensions and build of the two helmets were not just similar but identical.
Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
But though I have both size Small and Medium covers and helmets, I struggle to fit the covers on their respective size helmet. When I say struggle, I mean it's impossible - the Medium cover can barely stretch across the Small size helmet.
Is there a special technique to fit on the covers, like back to front? Do I fit the little plastic visor first or the plastic 'sticks' that go into the liner? These things are well build but I would hate to tear them by just using brute force.
Any suggestions? Or should I bite the bullet and get me an issue CG634?

Re: CG634 Kevlar Helmet
Not a helmet I would wear, since I have much better. I saw last week two being Sold for $175.00 with the cover, L and M.
I would have to check if still available.
