Beautiful piece.
It should be the model of Portuguese paratroops, right?

Re: Mozambique uniform
The uniform was made in Portugal by "Oficinas Gerais De Fardamento E Equipamento" (OGFE) with a style similar to the old Dolma jacket and trousers. But there are differences, such as the pocket flaps, velcro, an zipper front.

Very cool, this looks to be one of the better made African uniforms. It looks pretty snazy too!

Re: Mozambique uniform
I happen to have a set just like this on eBay right now. 270802793449. This variation is seldom seen. I know of only one supplier in Portugal, and he only has a very small handful. The eBay seller Portugaltotal got the uniform he's selling on eBay now for $350 from that same supplier.

Re: Mozambique uniform
@ ziofester
That uniform you show is probably from early 90's when civil war in Mozambique comes to an end and portuguese government sent tonnes of uniforms as aid to the new combined army from ex-FRELIMO and ex-RENAMO guerilla fighters. Thats why it haves the OGFE tag. OGFE only produces military equipment for portuguese armed forces. In 2005 i visited the country and only mozambique "Fuzileiros" still using that uniform as showned by bolo.
The rest of the army were in transition to this one
Best regards

Very cool. This new lizard looks similar to the Chinese-made "Northern Alliance" lizard used in Afghanistan. Same Chinese supplier?

Re: Mozambique uniform
Interesting color scheme. Funny how the Mozambican uniforms seem to have been influenced so much by the Portuguese, their former colonial masters. In the photos above, not just the lizard pattern, but also the brown and navy blue berets and the arced shoulder tab show Portuguese influence (though the color scheme of the new lizard pattern is a departure). Even the anchor device on the marines' navy blue berets is very similar to the Portuguese marines' beret device used during the colonial war.
By the way, the type of uniform that Ziofester originally posted was also worn by the Portuguese commandos. I suspect surplus stocks were later sold or given, as Albano points out, to the Mozambican commandos, as photos exist of the latter wearing this pattern. Here's a picture of a Portuguese badged uniform of the same pattern from my collection:

Re: Mozambique uniform
I had one of the portuguese commando uniforms (with the distinctive radius stitching in the shoulders) came out of Mocambique, picked it up in Rhodesia, don't recall but don't think it had a velcro tab.

Re: Mozambique uniform
You're right, the 1960s-70s pattern did not have velcro. But the photo I posted is of the 1980s pattern, which is similar but definitely not identical to the older pattern, and it does have velcro closures in all the pockets. This was not a popular pattern and was not used for very long. As I understand it from a friend of mine in Portugal who is a surplus dealer and the only wholesale source I know of for these sets, many of the sets were transferred to the Mozambicans, but some remained behind. It is scarce, particularly with the "Portugal" tab, but all the sets I've seen are in unused condition.
Remember, the Portuguese commandos were deactivated in 1993 and only reactivated in 2002. By then, the Portuguese military (except the marines and air force) were well into DPM. During the 1960s and 1970s, and into the 1980s, the commandos wore either the m/964 pattern (sometimes called among US collectors the M63 pattern), as shown in the first photo; or less commonly, the traditional airborne/marine pattern with the snaps on the pockets, as you can see in the second photo if you look closely (look at the flap of the bottom pocket on the smock, just above the pistol belt and magazine pouches). These were always in lizard. Only after their reactivation did the commandos start wearing DPM like the rest of the army.

Yes, that's it. Thanks for posting. Interestingly, if I'm not mistaken, the slip on rank insignia seem to be in the "new" camouflage pattern that was posted earlier in this thread.

Re: Mozambique uniform
I've seen a number of varieties of the lizard uniform made by OGFE that started this thread. Only one of them has the Mozambique shoulder badge. I've attached photos of the others from my collection. I haven't seen any photos of Portuguese troops wearing this uniform, but I've seen used uniforms, which suggests they were issued at some point to the Portuguese. If anyone can find any photos, that would be great! My friend the surplus dealer tells me the commandos wore them, which I'm sure is correct, but I wouldn't be surprised if other troops wore them too.
Smock with no badges, new old stock
Smock with no badges, used. This photo was sent to me by a militaria dealer in Portugal, who wanted 80 euros for this used smock (I didn't buy it). The price suggests to me that it's considered fairly scarce, because his prices are usually pretty fair.

Smock with "Portugal" tab and flag, new old stock. So far I've only seen one of these.
Smock with "Mozambique" tab. I've only seen a few of these, including the ones in this forum.

Re: Mozambique uniform
Excellent detective work Luis, I've been browsing the veteran websites for some photos of this uniform in service with the Comandos. No luck so far.
These uniforms are very well made and an interesting blend of colonial and modern features. Once these last few examples circulating eBay sell out, I predict these will be very hard to find.
