I got it some weeks ago. I can't find any stamps, but it fits like a 50-4.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Interesting photo of PV KGB forces in the late 1980s in Afghanistan, wearing the two-piece KLM suits, which were designed specifically for them from what I understand.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Aren't these one-piece KLMKs?
I'm not sure about the far right one, but most of the others are looking like regular KLMKs.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
I don't think it is really possible to tell if these are 1 piece or 2 piece uniforms. Even the 1 piece has a distinct belt line, which could look the same as a two piece with the shirt tucked into the trousers. Add to this belts, equipment, grainy photo quality, etc... it's really hard to say for sure. We could be looking at only 1 piece uniforms, only 2 piece uniforms, or a mix of both.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
As far as I remember (I don't have any of my gear here in Ireland) the KLMKs are more baggy, especially in the leg area. As all of these except for the third from the left and the far right one are looking quite baggy I assume they are one-piece suits and not the two-piece version.
Anyway, Steve is right, the quality of this picture isn't too good, so there is no real evidence to tell the differences.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
It is a little ambiguous, keep in mind the two-piece uniform has a small pocket on the left shoulder. I can see at least one. I will try to dig up a few more photos.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Are you referring to the far left person?
After all this might be a mixture of both types, I'd highly appreciate more pictures.

Not Russian but stll nice!
I thought I would share this suit with you. It was made in the UK 20 years ago in the British style of SAS smock and pants. Lovely quality and a nice pattern.

20 years ago? Are you sure? The pattern looks quite recent.

That's a curious uniform.
By whom and for whom was it made?

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
It was made for me by SASS in Lancaster, UK. They had the cloth which they used to make a simple over the head Russian style suit. I asked them to make this suit in their usual British smock style,

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Do you think this is a tank/AFV uniform or Flight suit?
I'm leaning towards flight suit since there are some similat TTsKO Flight suit pieces on ebay...
Or are they just standard winter trousers?

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Martin, that's a first generation winter variant for the frontier guards. Issued since 1979 I believe. In the late 80s (1987 onward, IMO), the uniforms were standardized with the more common all-arms M1982 "Afghanka" tailoring.

Re: Soviet KGB Border Guards(PV)
Sharing my 2nd pattern sets. These were circulated in 1987, which is rather late as the Aghanka was standardized in 1982, but I have yet to see a set dated before 1987. Theory is that this happened so late because of budget and the frontier guards were re-equipped relatively recently.
