Very hard to get 1st Model desert (vz95)! I've always wondered exactly how long they produced the smooth cotton model before moving to ripstop. So it is at least 2005. Good info to know.

Ooh! You got one with the arm pockets. That's been on my wish list for some time now. I have the vz85, vz95 1st Model (solid cloth), and vz95 2nd Model (same as 1st but in ripstop). The vz95 3rd Model, which you have, is not easily found IMHO. If it is, then maybe I need to have a chat with my local sources
From what I can tell, the 3rd Model is at least as early as 2007. Complicating matters is there are modified 2nd Model jackets in at least three forms:
1. Lower pockets removed and put on sleeves
2. Modest sized rectangles of velcro added that kinda look like they might be pockets
3. HUGE rectangles of velcro added
I've got quite a few pictures of each of these and there could be more types than this.

Thanks Alex,
Typical great Czech quality garment.
A bit too much velcro for my taste, but it is made super well with usual attention to details..
Should be fun finding matching trousers..

Re: czech desert camo as used in afghan
Steve, thanks for the info about the 2 types of VZ95.
I believe mine is designated either VZ 2000 or M 2000 > I thought it was the first ripstop type.

Both ripstop types are vz95. Look at your label in the above picture

The tag says:
"jacket (vz.) 95, summer with tan print - R"
I don´t know what the "R" means. Also I saw similar jacket from another manufacturer and the tag said "jacket (vz.) 95, summer with tan print modernized - R"

Hello T..
Maybe it just means ripstop..
There is an R on tag on desert shorts, as well.

Re: czech desert camo as used in afghan
I can confirm a -R on my ripstop set without pockets on sleeves. Thibir, could R stand for Ripstop? It sure would make sense if it did

Re: czech desert camo as used in afghan
How was that button-up shirt (the one with the two chest pockets and exposed buttons) worn? Did they wear it tucked in, like old-school uniforms?
Kind of interesting to see them using that style of dress in 2005. They upgraded to a more modern cut afterwards, it seems!

I think those shirts would be worn in garrison tucked into pants, but suppose they could also be worn with shorts on peacekeeping missions and such..

Re: czech desert camo as used in afghan
This uniform is more properly designated vz95, not vz85. But like so many things out there, resellers and collectors interchange the two because the camo pattern is thought of as vz85 since it hasn't changed since then.
The vz85 uniform was a family of uniforms originally OD/OG and then was transformed into woodland and desert without changing much of anything about the cut. Here's a good thread to check out:
https://iacmc.forumotion.com/t944-vz-85-uniform
The vz95 cut is similar, but has a lot of distinct differences. In particular the pockets have pleats in them vs. the vz85's no pleats. vz85 has no elbow reinforcements, no cuff flaps for buttoning, etc.
At some point (I forget when) the vz95 desert was switched over to ripstop. Later on, arm pockets were added as a field modification. I don't remember if that got formalized into a factory application or not.
