An early model - certainly too early to be wearing an Australian Flag patch. The oval 'Rising Sun' badge should be on the upper left arm only.

Re: DPCU Badged Jacket+Trousers.
Pull off the patches (which look commercial) and you have a nice matching early 1990s DPCU set. Keep a lookout for a plain brown "rising sun biscuit" (not DPCU) to go where Filupe said and it will be complete. Could also add some square DPCU cloth NCO rank badges, or officer slip on shoulder ranks. If square NCO badges make sure they are not the later type with sewn edge/border, just plain square cloth ones, or if officer shoulder ranks make sure they do not have AUSTRALIA on them as these are the recent model only.

Nice set.
Since we're on the subject, I have my own DPCU mystery piece:
It has no labels or markings at all, could it be a commercial or private-purchase jacket? 4-pockets with no liner inside. Thicker denim-like material.

Re: DPCU Badged Jacket+Trousers.
Colours look good. Buttons right type but unusual coloration. Possibly made out of pants material? Haven't seen any item with this cut either issue or commercial and in the absence of any markings or tags, the assumption that this is commercial is fairly accurate IMHO. Almost looks like a normal early issue shirt with bottom pockets retro-fitted. ... and the lapels are far too big!

Re: DPCU Badged Jacket+Trousers.
There were several commercial manufacturerers over the years making DPCU in BDU cut, especially during the 1990s. Combat Clothing in Qld made one like the above, I remember seeing it in catalogues. This could be one of those. Combat Clothing Australia went on to manufacture some issue items eg "boonie" wide brim DPCU hats. I have a DPCU BDU in 100% cotton ripstop, commercially manufactured but I forget the company. I kept it because it was used with biscuit and NCO rank badges and I liked the material. The gaps between the shapes in the pattern in the above jacket look a bit wide. Nice uncommon jacket however, and still collectable even if commercial.

Re: DPCU Badged Jacket+Trousers.
Shirt from the early 1990s should be badged like this:
Note however, this is a 1989 shirt, used in the early 1990s. If it was used in 1989 I'm not sure it would have the brown biscuit attached as I'm not sure those were issued yet in 1989. Possibly the shirt if used in the early 1990s might have a DPCU nametape above the left pocket, but again I'm not sure if DPCU nametapes were used in the early 1990s. Maybe Filupe can remember...?

Having lived it you'd think I'd know for sure. Unfortunately, I don't have a clear recollection when exactly the brown biscuit and cam nametape came in but the timeline you suggested sounds about right. A cursory check of photos from 1 RAR's deployment to Somalia in 1993 will show no 'biscuits' around but cam nametapes occasionally worn.

Re: DPCU Badged Jacket+Trousers.
--Martin, the wide-brim boonies of which you speak, were they terry-lined? I picked one up a few years ago, for less than it should have cost. It is a moleskin-type fabric, and has a heavy-duty cordlock. Even if it is commercial, it's still my favorite summer hat, so I wouldn't dream of parting with it-- I'm just curious as to the nature of it.
