Cannot find any markings on bergen itself but the side pockets are dated 1985.

Wow, nice find ! Has all the traits of a transitional bergan for sure. Para bergan shoulder strap buckles, butyl nylon under the shoulder straps and an interesting hip belt that looks to have snaps like al the other trials PLCE stuff had.
I'm jealous !

Cheers Dave, wasnt actively looking for one so well chuffed to be honest, just a shame i cannot find any markings at all on/in the bergen itself.
What type of yoke would have been used to attach the side pockets to i wonder?

I think there is a photo of the trials PLCE stuff in one of Mike Chappells books. They were trialling the stuff as his series of books on the British Army came out and so they got a special mention. I'll have a look tonight.
Don't know if you realised but there is an ebay seller with a few trials PLCE spade pouches ......... £2.20 each !!

I might have known !
It would be a better question to you to ask what you DON'T have rather than what you have, eh ?

Never seen one of these Bergens before in my life and within the a short space of time now have 2 of the things
THis one unlike the other has the info printed inside the top flap but unfortunately its waist belt is missing.
The 2 side pouches seem of lighter more flimsy material than the others. Cannot find any printed markings but written in red on rear of one pouch is--NEW SIZE(GIRTH+25MM).
