Always people talk about Legion forgets an importan piece of the uniformity, the breast emblems called pepitos. Those emblems are used to identify the destiny into each Tercio and it´s said they were created in early 60 by artillery Legion group and then copied by other Banderas or groups.
The name pepito is a diminutive of Pepe (more or less similar to Charles-Charlie). Pepe is the familiar way to call the name Jose a very common name in Spain in that time. First emblems had a legionnaire with siroquera and he was called "Pepito".
Why do they called him Pepito?, there are some theories but I am tired of translating, just this curiosity.
Here are some pepitos of my collection, most of them aged in 60-80´s (there are a couple of reproductions in the picture) but rest are originals.
