Anybody please got any ideas on this bizarre jacket??

Strange. Strip of velcro backing on the right arm, yes? My guess is this was made for German police units. It's what they call an Einsatzjacke (literally "action jacket"). Used for things like anti-riot duty, search and rescue, and other activities where a standard police uniform would be a hindrance.

But I have to say I've never seen anything quite like this being used by Police units. Perhaps it was a production sample for a possible contract? Maybe a temporary stop-gap for Police forces in the east since it took a few years to supply them with standard western type uniforms? Given the date and the Strichtarn fabric I think that's quite likely it has something to do with the transition in the east.

Heh... 100% Cotton appears to be a lie DDR Strichtarn has a significant artificial fiber content.

Thanks Steve,just arrived and was stumped to say the least.

Weird/strange/bizarre in many ways. Collar part is detachable but seems to serve no purpose,outer waist level have what look like belt loops front and rear and inner has cloth suspenders for some form of belt hooks??

Yup, 4 hooks is a very old German system for hanging the belt. More recent types, like BGS jackets, employed only 2 hooks instead of 4. Other post war Polizei uniforms also used 2 instead of 4.

My guess is the cloth is all recycled DDR production. It isn't possible to tell without the item in my hand, but the cloth might be DDR NVA summer uniform material.
