East German Rain Pattern Side Caps

I have two of these EG rain pattern side caps in my collection. One is mint, while the other is quite used. The mint one has something sewn onto the inside of the cap. I have never been able to discern what exactly the material is. Also, the used cap has also had a cap badge put on the front at one time.

I have talked to several collectors and they aren't exactly sure who would have used them. One theory is that they were used by the South African Special Forces. Another theory is that these caps were worn by SWAPO or by Angolan troops. Any thoughts?

Sorry to dig up this tread. This side caps are probably from Mozambique origin. DDR supplied equipment in rain pattern to FRELIMO during the early stages of their liberation war from Portugal. It's hard to get any visual references on those materials even more to get them. You have their some good and hard to find pieces

I recently acquired a mint condition strichtarn side cap like the ones discussed in this thread.  It is made from the slightly softer SADF Recce Strichtarn copy material (whereas the one in this thread appears to be made from East German fabric), and does not have the ink stamp inside.  In fact the size is only indicated by a sticker that will obviously fall off in use.  The inside lining of mine appears to be a different material as well.  

Had a bunch of the various SADF fake camos for use in Pseudo ops. I only ever saw berets and combat caps in rain pattern, it's certainly an interesting part of DDR rain camo history.
