Greek vertical lizard? Empty Greek vertical lizard?

Post by koalorka Sat Mar 29, 2014 4:41 pm

    Did anyone see this?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Greek-Army-Paratrooper-Lizard-Camo-Uniform-Set-/321348118835?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=g7NLGFInZE41QeivDClOOzbWQgc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Is it just me or is that not even remotely a standard Greek pattern? Who would go to the trouble of dressing it up with all of those patches?

I've never seen this pattern before and took a quick check and didn't see any evidence of it being legit. The tailoring is all wrong as well as everything being brand spanking new. That's not usually a good sign for questionable items.

A couple someones thought it was worth bidding fairly high. Either they know something I don't (entirely possible), or they got sucked in by a cool looking uniform and description.

I don't think I recognize the pattern at all.

    Yes!
It is not Greek but Cyprus, used by "navy seal"; for a short time I think!
It is the same pattern than the Singapore pattern, and this pattern existing in commercial, so, if the set have not label, it is possible it is just a fake
I have not find an Cyprus thread on the forum

    Well congratulations in any case.

I thought it looked Asian, so I was close, since I have seen Singapore shirts with the same cut and colours.

I suspect it is not a fake, there simply is no common knowledge of such a Cypriot unit, I think you have found a real treasure.

I also thought it reminded me of the Singapore commercial pattern.  I had one, but the colors were different.  Not as bright and contrasting.

OK, so it is not Greek but Cypriot? That makes sense why I couldn't find it associated with Greece when I did a search. I did not think to check Cyprus.

It is not surprising that this uniform fits into the group of "semi-official, limited use" uniforms that are so often associated with special military units. There are so many of these uniforms out there that we aren't aware of. Sometimes maybe a dozen men used them for one photo shoot!

    Congratulations Gilles Very Happy

I've seen this pattern on short brim bucket boonies back in the very early 90's here in the UK. I bought a couple from a surplus stall for 50p for use in the cadets. I remember it being quiet poorly made and faded quit quickly because the cloth was quiet thin.

Yes, I had one too ... except mine was acquired a decade earlier. It was sort of 'tiger striperish' back then so that was good enough for me ...

I also have the Singapore version in both jumpsuit and top and bottom ... yes, pattern looks VERY similar but definitely more tactical colours.
