Incidentally I got my M-50 for 17.50 from my local surplus shop, alas it is not Russian, but I'm pleased with it nevertheless

Re: THE HELMET THREAD
Love the display James, I agree the profiles and shades of green paint are quite distinct, it's quite clear over the years that the edge of the lid over the years has shrunk back, I never realised this was the case, so many thanks for showing this fine display.

VERY nice Germanjumplid James, I'm after one of these myself, but in no hurry.
And your Afghan display is outstanding Mate, you must put an awful lot of research into your display's and it show's, the goggles look like a copy of the old US WW2 designed ones..cool

Re: THE HELMET THREAD
James you got a good point there mate, very similar profile, love the M-35 Mate, must be worth a bomb!!!
Awhile back ,and as being fairly bored out of my skull, I put a US 6 colour cover on one of my M-42's, and I was amazed how similiar the PASGt and M-42's were in profile

Can anyone tell me what this is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290621521328?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1968wt_1396
What is it for?!?! Anyone know anything about it? I was thinking about buying one (so don't buy the last one) but I have no idea what it is for.

Re: THE HELMET THREAD
Semi Rigid Inflatable boats carried on a lot if not all Royal Navy vessels, they are lowered and used by boarding parties amongst others when searching suspect vessels for whatever reasons,Drugs,Pirates etc.

Hi Rich.
It's NOT a rigid raider lid they are black in colour and have a more fitted shape to them, I know these were used by troops working with Rapier missiles, hope this helps Mate

I think the sellers description of the Lid is correct in terms of the nomenclature, pity they didn't beef out the description a bit more, probably they have no idea either, in the past I have seen these lids described as Rappelling, AFV, amongst other poor descriptions.

You did indeed Rich, either way I think the price is a bit steep for an "impact helmet".

Re: THE HELMET THREAD
It certainly is a bit steep and dont go down the same route i did when i was collecting headgear and helmets in that i used to buy EVERY SINGLE item that i could afford regardless of what they were or what country-if they were military i would buy them!!!!

Re: THE HELMET THREAD
Hi Guys, IMHO this Swiss M-40, has got to be one the more "out there" shaped helmets of the 20th century, this one dates from 1941 due to the Matt dark grey paint finish. The covers for these are equally oddly coloured hues, anyway thought you might like to see this oddity..cheers Gary.
