Any ideas what to look for label, print wise to decide which would be an Gulf 91 cover and what would be a later cover as we all know Brit issue labels arent as easy to decipher/date as the US ones

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
I am very glad you posed this question Rich, I really am, as I am researching this very subject.
As you know it is nigh on impossible to accurately date DPM articles, unless there give aways like buttons, epaulettes etc..but here is a theory I have so far regarding DDPM MK6 covers..... it would appear that early covers have an olive green label in them as per the Temperate covers, the later covers have a white label that is matt in appearance.I have many with shiny labels that are white/cream too?? ( This is a theory and is ongoing until I can get more info and examples to study)
I will try and dig out/take pics of some my examples, perhaps this could start a really interesting and informative thread mate, I hope so

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
Ok,looks like this is going to be an interesting one
Havent really had a rummage through my stuff but have come accross 2 of my covers and both are different--
1st is of the teabag variety and unfortunately its fitted to a riot equipped MK6 so cannot remove it at the moment to check the label but will do so.
Second cover is in the more traditional material-unissued and has a WHITE nylon type label(will post pics when i get a chance).
Have never given these covers a second thought until now as they are ten a penny and pretty much only worth a pound or so each but am now definitely interested in different types if people could please post theirs including label pics.

Again I relate Rich.
I have sold / traded many of these covers too over the years, and I'm beginning to wonder whether I should have at least taken photo's of them for future ref.
Never had a sparse one though, and if I did I would NOT trade it

Agreed..when I get time I'm going to dig out all my covers and photo the labels, maybe together we can work out some sort of dating system ( I'm sure it will be a piece of p**s..not) but hey, let's give it a go anyway Mate

MK6 Cover research
Hi Rich.
As discussed before, this is a work in progress so my theories are based on partial guess work and matching cover labels to jacket labels to try and date them.
Here they are discuss.....
I am 99% sure this one is Op Granby issue as the label is shiny and same as Op Granby issue Jackets.

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
Not sure about this one.. label makes me think it's earlyish due to manafacturer.

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
This one has a darker pattern, and the green label, which I've not seen before on any other covers, the label say's Desert Dpm but no manafacturer.

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
I'm very certain this one is post 2000 again due to the label being the same plasticky feeling label as S2ooo Jackets....

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
Nice!!!!
I would think, going by the labels that the one with the green label is the earliest.

Thanks Mate, I would also guess the green labeled one is the earliest..truth be told I just dunno!!!!
The reasearch continues, show yours for comparison, it may spur others on to show there's too, we may be able to draw some conclusions from this

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
Teabag/Cheescloth type material. Label is made of cotton(not shiny nylon type material) and same type as the green label on Garys but in white.

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
I too have been slow to wake up to these...why is that?
I'm starting with anything obviously special....badges, patches and markings for starters...does anyone know which makers are the rarest? I see loads in bins at Fairs.....I guess I'd prefer to avoid kissing frogs!

Re: MK6 Helmet Covers.
Same here, much prefer used been there items in general than stuff that has sat on a QMs shelf but am at times partial to unissued stuff(at the right price!!!). Like winter here, wind and rain and much colder than its been.

'picked up a mint experimental REVERSIBLE (DPM - Green / Desert) label-less Gortex Mk6 cover at W&P show...drawstring closure and elastic straps on green side only....I'd post pics if I could remember how...but visually it ain't all that
