ERDL Jacket with insignia? Empty ERDL Jacket with insignia?

Post by Martin Thu May 08, 2014 10:05 am

    Hi guys,

What do you think of this jacket? Obviously Vietnam period issue Green Dominant ripstop Poplin ERDL, but both tags are missing, has some major repairs. It is size LR (compared it against other ERDL shirts I have with tags), and has what looks like original insignia..?

Is it worth keeping? Would the insignia and name patch be correct and period?

the nametape doesn't look US to me, but it may be an in-country made version. Doesn't look like any I've seen before tho. The insignia are for the US Army Infantry school It's OK for the left sleeve, but totally wrong for the right sleeve. Jacket should have a US Army tape over the pocket also. Not a bad looking ERDL tho.

The name tape looks out of scale to me. Too tall... could be the angle , but don't think so.

Infantry school patch is not worn as combat patch.

Shirt is worth keeping...At least because of the scarce size....

Name tape is made in Australia of the type done by J.J. Cash in Sydney. US Inf. School patch should NOT be worn as a battle patch. Insignia wise it looks like a put-together. Might have been an ERDL issued to SASR or CDO but with added on 'bling' - maybe check the quality of how the shoulder sleeve insignia was stitched onto the jacket ...

With the lack of good photos of the jacket I'm going to make a WAG!
The jacket is post Viet Nam - mid 70s just before they went to the straight pocket flaps.
