NOW.....this is one Iraqi helmet I have no explanation for. It is a standard Iraqi KEvlar helmet with PINK paint on it. Captured at the Port of Basra during Desert Storm.

Definitely not US made. The quality on this helmet is beyond pathetic. Judging from the shrapnel hits, I highly doubt this soldier survived. The shrapnel holes come from the inside to the outside. The only mark on this helmet is an O in thecrown. It doesn't appear to have ever had a rubber strip around the outside. This one has been tenatively identified as Afghan used. Probably Chinese made for Afghanistan.

El Salvador Kevlar (PASGT type) helmet that came from a former pilot with the A Company, 1st Platoon, 6-101st Avn. Bn. He was stationed at Ilopango Air Field in 1989. He said he had a helmet that he had gotten while down in El Sal. His exact words: " This helmet was picked up off the road at Ilopanga Air Feild, El Salvador. Dropped by a trooper heading out to take on FMLN guerrillas. From my tour w/ 101st ABN rotation Oct. 89 - Feb. 90." He also included a paper detailing the events and two photos (one of El Sal Airborne training and the other an aerial shot of Ilopango Air Field).

He thought the helmet was a US made PASGT Kevlar. I have looked this helmet over and can find no US markings. Furthermore, there are more screws/bolts than on a US PASGT. Helmet suspension is different and the helmet appears to be cheaply made. Tell you the truth, I wouldn't trust my life to this helmet if I was going into a combat situation. However, I must admit the sweat band idea is ingenious and would work rather well.

Anyone have any idea if this is an indigenous manufacture or if it was made by another country for El Salavador?

11th ACR medic grouping. It came with the MICH/ACH, reversible cover, helmet band (with embroidered name, blood type, and number), boots, knee pads and uniforms.

    THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 01013
    THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 01112

The knee pads have been personalized by the soldier with a Sharpie. One knee pad says "Kill" and the other one says "Down with the Sickenss". The Down with the Sickness comment I would assume is a reference to him being a medic and also a reference to the song "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed.

Sadly some idiot applied the writing on it, prior to it coming into my collection Sad

Something a little different. These are helmets made for kids in WW2. A couple are rejected liners addapted for use as kid's toys.

Hawley type helmet. Made in the style of the tin hat or doughboy helmet. It is made from pressed paper with khaki cotton cloth cover and thinner lining. Helmet strap is made from an Army dress hat chin strap.
    THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0081THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0082THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0083

Tin hat. Made from tin. Painted OD. This one once had a flat chin strap made of elastic. It has a deep shell.
    THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0078THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0079THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0080

Another tin hat. This one is tin also. It's shell is shallower and it has a different OD color to it. It once had a chinstrap made from a piece of elastic cord.
    THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0084THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0085THE HELMET THREAD - Page 10 PICT0086

Low pressure liner rejected by the military and re-used as a child's liner. Has a tarred cloth liner riveted to shell. Washers are early square type. Shell is a brownish/red.

Rejected Firestone liner used as a child's helmet. Has a webbing made from light weight OD hbt tape. Very basic riveting to liner.
