This is the official hat issued to San Marco riflers for hot and tropical climates. Needless to say that it looks a bit goofy so whenever possible, it was replaced with US boonie hats as an individual initiative.

here, you can see a different type of boonie hat. Hard to say when it was issued or if it was something privately purchased. I do have a boonie hat in BSM pattern which is well made but wasn't issued when I was there. The main problem is that some companies which supply BSM have their own "commercial" line of products and therefore you can find also t-shirts with this pattern, although we only wore kakhi ones.
