50 shades of.... "San Marco" Empty 50 shades of.... "San Marco"

    Post by Tocc88 Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:10 pm

Today I was doing the cleaning, so I decided to take some photos of my equip.
Here's my San Marco's pattern collection

50 shades of.... "San Marco" Format11

    Starting from the right:

    - "Mountain" San Marco - 1993 or so by "Nuova Saltes". Used during the Balcans
    - San Marco year 1999 by "Di elle"
    - San Marco year 2001 by "Saka". Used in Iraq during mid 2000's
    - Desert San Marco pattern uniform year 2002 by "FCM". This item had to be used by GOI (Navy Raiders), but it has never been adopted... notice the absence of the stars on the neckband
    - San Marco year 2005 (maybe later) by "???". First type of a San Marco uniform with the same tail of vegetata: pockets on the front are now askew and without the Lion, typical mark of the "San Marco".
    - San Marco year 2009 by "Uniform srl". This is (in my opinion) the best San Marco camouflage, unfortunately after a few years also the Italian Naavy adopted the vegetata as combat uniform.

Those items are 100% originals, unfortunately some of them lost the labels.
I hope you will enjoy this.

    Bye bye all Smile

After checking out your original post, I was wondering how many different SM/ COMSUBIN variations were in my collection..

Not certain of  chronology, but according to  the labels that remain or are still legible there are 2 Consorzio Liguria, one Nuovo Saltes , one SA KA. Confezione , one SC Lovers , and 2 FCM; the rest are unknown.

50 shades of.... "San Marco" Dscn3413

Figured I'd throw in the  Vegetato SM/COMSUBIN  variant as well..

Nice thread! I fell in love with this pattern soon after it was introduced and have many variations in my collection.

mylle wrote:Wow, impressive!Funny how many variants are out there..... Cool

Not too many more than what Tocc88 and Rip have shown us. The only two I think I see missing are:

    1.  The very, very rare desert version from the 1990s.  That's on my bucket list Wink

    2.  Variant in ripstop that is in a very similar cut as the orange/pink desert uniform.  The pattern is slightly different.

There is also the coveralls in the spray camo pattern, but I don't think it's different pattern/colors than the ones shown here.

Glad to see the appriciation of Italian uniforms abroad!

I totally agree with CollectinSteve; if I can make a clarification we also forgot the type of pattern used in Somaly (not only the desert variant).

Moreover, I'm sure that the FCM San Marco type pattern was never used/adopted by Italian navy, it is only for commercial.

Here's a picture made by me that shows some of the San Marco type uniforms used in operations/trainings; I hope it will be useful.

50 shades of.... "San Marco" A10

1- type 1999 San Marco during training
2- type 2001 San Marco during training (in pose)
3- first 90's type San Marco during op. Restore Hope in Somalia
4- type 2005 (???, well, the first type with same tail of vegetata) during training/demonstration
5- Desert San Marco ("Pink panther") used by GOI in Iraq in mid 2000's
6- type 2009 San Marco worn by a Navy port guard
7-8 - "Mountain" type San Marco. The 7 is from a photoshoot during a training in 2001, the 8 is from the op. "Alba" in 1997

    Nice pictures!

There is at least one picture of the 2002 FCM "orange" uniform being worn in Iraq. I have one and it does have the stars on it. But I agree with you, it probably was never adopted.

    Hi Haydamaka!!

Observing the photos in your link I'm sure that your pants belong to a 2005 type uniform of Battaglione San Marco that is the first type with the standard vegetato layout (I mean for tail, oblique pockets on the chest, and pockets on the arms) but with the same colours of the 2001 type.

It was used, with the 2001 type, during the ONU campaign in Lebanon in 2006 (see photos below)... You con see the matched jacket in Tocc's post (is the second starting from left... with grey stars and near the desert one).

    Exactly!

This is a member of GOS (Gruppo Operativo Subaquei). With GOI in form the COM.SUB.IN.
GOS members are deployed in operations of underwater demining.

There are a lot of WWII underwater mines in Mediterranean sea...
